Legal Wedding in Thailand Service
Faraway Legal Wedding Service
Our THAI MARRIAGE LEGALISATION SERVICE is a comprehensive package offered by Faraway Weddings to ensure your marriage in Thailand is legally recognised.
Rather than registering your marriage in your home country before or after your Thai ceremony, and therefore ending up with two wedding dates, or having to battle through the red tape and lengthy process in Thailand yourselves, this service leaves you to enjoy your travels without worrying about the legalities. Therefore, if you'd prefer to spend your time enjoying
The process starts with a visit to your embassy in Bangkok, to obtain a statutory declaration (a document that has been endorsed and stamped by the Consulate) which confirms you status and availability to marry. Every embassy has its own form and regulations and, where possible, we will inform you of any additional requirements as per individual embassies, such as previous divorce papers and individual embassy fees.
Some embassies will not deal with a third party, even to make an appointment and so you will be required to do this if your embassy dictates you to.
You will be met at your embassy in Bangkok by the Faraway Legal Representative who will be on hand to assist you and guide you through the process of signing the necessary paperwork. All you will generally need are your passports, photocopies of the front page of your passports, and any other documentation specifically required by your embassy.
Please note, with some embassies, you may need to leave your passports there for collection later that day or the following morning. Once the declarations have been issued, our representative will meet you at your embassy to collect them. At this point you will be free to continue with your holiday or wedding preparations, and we will handle everything else.
Our legal representative will have the documents translated at an authorized translation bureau and take them to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs for processing and endorsement. Thisl takes approximately two to three days. Once completed, the documents are express couriered to our office on Koh Samui.
Faraway Weddings will then have a meeting with the Koh Samui City Council (Amphur) where your paperwork will be endorsed, verified and submitted to the Registrar (Balat).
This process takes about two days and we arrange for the Registrar to be present at your marriage ceremony with your marriage certificate, ready to be signed. At the legal ceremony, the Registrar will ask you to state your names and professions and one or two other simple questions. Our wedding team will be on hand to help with translating any questions that the registrar may ask prior to signature.
Having signed the relevant documentation you will be presented with your marriage certificate and it is announced that you are officially married as authorised by Thai law. The signing of the certificate takes a maximum of ten minutes to complete. We later take a copy of the certificates and send them back to Bangkok to have them translated back into English.
The certificates are then forwarded onto you at an agreed address at a later date.
If required by your embassy, the translated signed certificates will also be sent back to the Thai Foreign Ministry for endorsement and then onto your embassy for verification. This can take up to four weeks and the certificates will the be forwarded to you at a later date.
For your information, if you wish to utilise this service, you will need to have your embassy appointment at least six working days prior to your ceremony date on Koh Samui.
However, you will usually only need to stay in Bangkok for one night. After your embassy appointment, you'll be free to leave Bangkok.
The signed declaration remain valid for 90 days so it may be easier in some circumstances to do this on an earlier trip to Bangkok.
The cost of this comprehensive legal service is between 23,500 to 28,500 baht depending on your nationality; as some embassies require an extra process to complete the legal procedure after the signing of the wedding certificates.
Please note that Embassy fees are not included in this price as they vary and will need to be paid by you directly to your Embassy. For example; the Embassy fees for Australians are currently 500 baht per person, whereas the fees for UK passport holders are 3,600 baht per person. (Prices are subject to change).
Please note: Our service is only available for ceremonies arranged by Faraway Wedding on Koh Samui. It is also important that you inform us if you want to utilise this service before you book your flight arrangements.
